Underground Mining Dewatering Solutions supplied by Dowdens are designed, fabricated and tested in-house. These systems are used in the water management process, where mine water is collected by AODD pumps and transferred to the Fish Tank. Water level sensors activate the pump and transfer the collected water to the central station, dam, or directly out of the mine portal.

The Dowdens Dewatering Systems are meticulously designed and built at our facility in Mackay. This process encompasses fabricating the frame, pod, and cassette, carefully assembling the entire system, and rigorous testing to ensure optimal performance. Each stage is executed precisely to deliver reliable and effective solutions for our clients.

Dewatering Fish Tanks

Portable Fish Tanks are used in underground mines as part of the water management process. Pumps collect water from sumps and wet areas and deliver to the fish tank.

Standard capacity options of 2,000L, 4,000L, 6,000L, 10,000L and 14,000L tanks are designed to minimise maintenance. The bottom shape of the fish tank allows a self-cleaning action that dramatically reduces the retention of solids.

Flameproof or IP-rated models are available with pump and motor configurations selected based on the application
requirements.

Dowdens Pneumatic Dewatering Pod

The Dowdens Pneumatic Dewatering Pod was designed to provide clients with an effective dewatering solution in situations where power is unavailable, such as during planned outages or equipment malfunctions.

Given the increasing lead times for electrical components and motors, as well as the costs associated with powering equipment in hazardous areas, this non-powered solution helps clients maintain their operations without interruption.

The system collects water from around the mine, including sumps and wet areas, and transports it to the pod. From there, pumps transfer the collected mine water to a main station, dam, or another pod.

Dewatering Pump Stations

Dowden’s dewatering pump stations are integral to the underground dewatering process. Smaller Dewatering Pods deliver wastewater pumped from Wilden AODD air-driven pumps to the POD, which then pumps the wastewater to the larger pump stations. The pump station then pumps the wastewater to the settling dams on the surface.

Dowden’s in-house Test Bay is designed for high-capacity, precision testing of pumping systems with power ratings up to 250 kW. It supports both 415V and 1000V electric motors and diesel engines of any capacity. This controlled environment ensures that each system performs to specifications before deployment, minimising risks, downtime, and delays in commissioning.
